Morning Confession!

I had NO idea he was standing there.  I was in my car patiently waiting at the stoplight between our home and the school.  My windows were rolled up, but… I was singing one of my favorite praise songs “like I meant it”, if you know what I mean.  Out of nowhere, a high school student stepped out from behind the telephone pole on the corner.  I must have looked absolutely ridiculous because he was laughing and looking right at me.  I waited to turn before I blurted out laughing hysterically.  Wow… good one, Gretch. I looked like I had just crawled out from behind a rock, and losing my ever-loving mind; however, that is JUST what I was preserving that morning… MY MIND! Let me explain.

Confession. All these years I have DRIVEN the kids to school in the morning; but… we live ONLY 5 minutes from the school. So before you start thinking she’s one of “those parents” …hear me out.  Give the girl a chance!

So many days, I wake up in the morning already overwhelmed.  I’m worried I don’t have what it takes to get through the day… physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, for that matter. Frankly, I’m trying to “do the thing” with my own strength.

But, here’s where the car ride comes in handy.  Once I drop them off, I have 5 minutes to remind myself who TRULY carries me through my day.  I roll up the car windows, because I obviously don’t want to scare anyone, and then… I “belt it out”… I PRAISE HIM with everything I got! I tell Him how MUCH I love Him and I sing like I do when I’m in the shower.  My problems don’t miraculously go away, but my perspective of my problems DOES change.  I pull up to the house, once again, knowing I have a God who is ABLE; able to heal me, able to sustain me, able to handle whatever is going on that seems hopeless. Friends, I know this sounds super cheesy, but IT WORKS!

How about you? Do you find yourself wondering why you can’t turn your brain off? Overwhelmed by physical issues, relationships, financial issues, work concerns, etc… If you do, I PROMISE you THIS will be one of the best habits you start in the spring of 2019! Take 5 minutes a day, preferably in the morning, and just PRAISE GOD for who He is. Period. No requests… Just praise! It will change you… it will change your day… it will change the people around you.  And… it may just put a smile on the face of your neighbor or a hidden bystander!

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise- the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.”–Hebrews 13:15

“The sincerest form of prayer is praise.”–Billy Graham

Carpe Diem, my precious friends….xoxo
