Audience of One…

Have you ever been COMPLETELY misunderstood? Or …accused of ulterior motives when you were acting with the SOLE intention of benefitting that person/s?

If you haven’t had the “privilege” yet, get ready…because you will.  When this happens, it is so difficult not to dwell on it…not to try and prove yourself, or let it prevent you from acting on behalf of that person again or others for that matter.

This recently happened to me and I found myself getting a “titch” annoyed and angry.  I literally remember thinking… this would be the last time I tried to help this individual; from here on out, this individual was on their own!  Period. However, almost instantly, I realized I was acting out of pain.  I was hurt they didn’t believe I was acting out of pure motives and that I truly wanted the best for them.  The Lord brought to my mind this quote that He has used so many times in my life; a quote that reminds all of us who is the TRUE “reader of hearts and motives.”

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.  If you are honest, people may cheat you.  Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness, people may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, may be forgotten tomorrow.  Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.

For you see, in the end, it is between YOU and GOD.  It was never between you and them anyway.”–Mother Theresa

Are you in a situation today where you feel misunderstood? If so, remember we all only truly answer to an “Audience of One”.

Carpe Diem, my precious friends….
